As a licensed social worker, Doug has over 35 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Â Doug also has extensive experience working with clients with substance abuse disorders. Â As a therapist, Doug uses a variety of approaches to ensure that clients have a positive experience in treatment. Â Doug is employed at Christiana Care as a psychiatric social worker in the emergency department. Â Doug assists the crisis team with traumas and all psychiatric emergencies. Â Doug was also a professor at three universities, teaching counseling and psychology courses.
Doug believes in a client-centered therapy approach that focuses on developing positive coping skills and setting realistic goals.  Doug utilizes “mindfulness†as a way to help clients become more aware of their own experiences and as a way to stay present in all situations.  “Mindfulness†has been proven to reduce anxiety and to improve self-empowerment.
